The abbr tag is used to define an abbreviation. An optional title attribute can be used to specify the expansion for the abbreviation. The text specified in the title tag is often displayed as a tooltip by the browsers when you hover over the element.

The <acronym> tag is similar to <abbr> tag. HTML 5 does not support <acronym> tag.
